How many year have you been dancing at UDA? Three years
What made you want to start dancing? When I was small, my parents took me to a creative dance class, it all sort of just started off from there.
What is your favorite type of dancing? This one's hard! I have so many favorites, I absolutely love contemporary and lyrical, because I love to put my heart and soul into all my dancing and really feel the movement with the music. But I also really enjoy ballet and pointe because it's so structured, and just the fact that it's good for you.
What is your favorite dance memory? I have so many dance memories, but I have to say competition time was my absolute favorite, when the whole company would group together and get ready to perform, feeling the butterflies in your stomach right before you perform for the judges, feeling so together with your company, and being ready to give it all you got on that stage no matter what, I believe that that's my favorite dance memory.
What is your favorite past dance recital theme and/or recital dance that you learned? If I have to think back to one recital dance, I would choose the ballet piece Brooke choreographed with Chariots of Fire (Ballet 4; Lights, Camera, Action; 2008). It was a really strong piece, the costumes were beautiful and every movement just flowed together. However, if I have to choose a competition piece, my absolute favorite would be "The Dance" which was last year’s competition piece for Teen Company. It was such a powerful piece, and the choreography was amazing.
Who are some of your special UDA friends? I don't think I can just choose a group of people for this question. I remember that when I first came to UDA, everyone was so friendly, it felt like everyone were special UDA friends. Last year’s Teen Company girls still hold a place in my heart forever and always though, I love you guys!
Who is one teacher that truly inspires you or who you look up to? All of the teachers at UDA inspire me so much and are always there whenever you need them. Cherie Mockli was one of my first ever teachers, and she really taught me to love dance and to love modern. As well as Moana Aiono who made hip hop dance so much fun. I have to say Marcia McCutchen as well, because she didn't just teach me pointe, but she taught me a lot about my body, she was someone I could always go to if I had questions.
What are some of your future goals and ambitions? As of right now, I'm on Dance Company at Hillcrest High School, I love every moment of it, but another part of me still misses the Company at UDA. I know in my future (at least until I graduate) there's going to be some form of dancing, whether it's Dance Company at Hillcrest or Dance Company at UDA I'm not sure yet!
