Julie Celeste Blake is 17 years old. She has been dancing at UDA for 11 years. When she was little, it seemed like all the “cool” girls danced, and as a young “pup”, she wanted to emulate the big girls! Jazz is her favorite type of dance because there are so many different variations and styles. Jazz allows a dancer to be sly, sad, happy, upbeat, pretty and girly. The possibilities are endless! Her favorite memory is when she performed at Copper Hills High School. She remembers thinking how big the school and the stage were. She and the rest of the dancers ran through the halls and it seemed like they went on forever. Now she attends Copper Hills and performs at Kingsbury Hall. Times have changed! The memories will stick forever and many more are to come.
Julie really enjoyed the theme from years past about dances from different countries. There was so much diversity. She was in the Mexican Hat Dance. She loved her costume and still has it. She later performed that dance at her elementary talent show and received a standing ovation. She was one happy 2nd grader!
She has too many special friends at UDA to mention by name. Not a class goes by that she doesn’t laugh with them. She’s made so many friends in the dance world. They all accept her tall, quirky self and she says each one of them is a blessing (including Jason!).
She feels blessed to have had so many inspiring teachers over the years, but Brooke Maxwell will always be one she looks up to. Brooke was her first teacher when the studio opened. She laid the foundation to Julie’s dance technique today. She remembers Brooke showing the class their first pirouette and Julie was sure that Brooke was the most beautiful lady in the whole world. Brooke is always there with a warm hug and a welcoming smile. Julie appreciates Brooke’s wonderful example and is appreciative of the gift of dance she has given her. When Julie grows up she wants to be just like Brooke.
Julie’s future goals and ambitions include keeping up dance throughout her life. She would like to graduate college with a Pediatric Nursing Degree, raise a family and let them experience the wonder and beauty she has grown up in!
